Boer War, Earl of Carrick's Own, Ayrshire Imperial Yeomanry, Scottish Fund Raisers Charity Flag Day Badge / Brooch.

A rare Boer War period flag day badge, simply made from a strip of celluloid mounted on a pressed gilt shield, the front printed with the badge of the regiment, lion-headed griffin with flaming tongue and eagle's wings, 'Earl of Carrick's Own' above 'South Africa 1900-1902' below, with a further title scroll 'Ayrshire Imperial Yeomanry'. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, celluloid colours remain bright and without any foxing, gilt remains fresh.
Height 44mm.

Ayrshire Imperial Yeomanry dropped the 'Imperial' title in 1908 upon transferring to the 'Territorial Force'.

A rare 'Ayrshire Yeomanry sweetheart brooch', brass lion-headed griffin with flaming tongue and eagle's wings, with title scroll below inlaid with blue enamel. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel.
