An attractive First World War period fine quality 'King's Royal Rifle Corps gold sweetheart brooch', the badge of the Regiment, a Maltese Cross with title circlet surmounted by Crowned Latin motto scroll 'Celer et Audax' (Swift and Bold) inlaid mounted on a hollow gold rifle, the reverse impressed "9ct" (9 carat gold). Very good condition, retaining original pin fitting, old replacement hook and contained in an associated period velvet lined fitted leather case.

In 1858 'Peninsula Barracks Winchester, Hampshire' became the home base and training centre for the 'King’s Royal Rifle Corps' (60th Rifles) and 'Rifle Brigade' and was called the 'Rifle Depot'. In 1951 the name of the Depot was changed to 'The Green Jackets Depot' and later to the 'The Green Jackets Brigade Depot'.
