A rare First World War period 'H.M.S. Patia sweetheart brooch', in the form of a hollow gold torpedo, the reverse impressed "9ct" (9 carat gold) "Regd" and maker's details "F.H.J" ((Frank H Mannox, Birmingham.). Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, no dents or distortions, a superb and highly recommended collectible item.
Length 51mm.

HMS Patia was a First World War Armed Merchant Cruiser and was torpedoed and sunk 25 miles West of Hartland Point by the German U-boat UC 49 on the 13th June 1918. Three months later on the 8th August 1918 being depth charged and sunk by HMS Opossum off Start Point, with all hands lost.
