Royal Navy HMS Southampton 1917 silver torpedo sweetheart brooch


A scarce First World War period 'H.M.S. Southampton sweetheart brooch', in the form of a hollow silver torpedo with gold plated title scroll, the reverse bearing Birmingham hallmarks for 1917 and maker's details "F.H.M" ((Frank H Mannox Birmingham.). Good condition, retaining original pin fitting, professionally replaced hook, a few minor dents.
Length 56mm.

HMS Southampton was a light cruiser launched in 1912, she served in the First World War, fought in the 'Battle of Jutland' where she torpedoed the German light cruiser 'SMS Frauenlob' which consequently sank. She was sold for scrapping in 1926.
