The Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's Own) 15 carat gold regimental sweetheart brooch
A stunning fine quality First World War period 'The Rifle Brigade gold and enamel sweetheart brooch', the badge of the Regiment, a Maltese Cross with title circlet, within a laurel wreath bearing numerous representation battle honours and surmounted by Crowned 'Waterloo" scroll with further "Peninsula" scroll to the lower arm, all points inlaid with top quality green enamelling and secured to a slender bar by four rivets, the reverse impressed "15ct" (15 carat gold) and with maker's details "CP&Co" (Charles Packer & Co, Regent Street, London). Excellent condition, retaining original pin fittings, perfect enamel, highly recommended.

In 1858 'Peninsula Barracks Winchester, Hampshire' became the home base and training centre for the 'Kings Royal Rifle Corps' (60th Rifles) and 'Rifle Brigade' and was called the 'Rifle Depot'. In 1951 the name of the Depot was changed to 'The Green Jackets Depot' and later to the 'The Green Jackets Brigade Depot'.
