WW1 The British West Indies Regiment, Mother of Pearl Sweetheart Brooch.
A rare First World War period unique sweetheart brooch, handmade from mother of pearl shell and ornamented into a large sized 'British West Indies Regiment brooch', on the same design as the cap badge, a crowned oval title, the centre depicting a sailing galleon, all resting within a laurel wreath. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, an excellent example.
Height 46mm.
The British West Indies Regiment was raised in 1915 from volunteers in Barbados, Bahamas, British Guiana, British Honduras, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Leeward Islands. It was disbanded in 1921.
