Royal Navy & Merchant Navy Silver & Enamel Naval Signalling Flag Brooch QR1.

A fine quality rhodium plated nautical brooch, in the form of three signalling flags, flown from a mast, each superbly hand coloured in translucent enamel and spelling "QR1" or perhaps harbouring some other saucy meaning; the reverse impressed "Silver". Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings incorporating safety roller catch in perfect working order, enamel pristine, an excellent example.
Height 33mm.

In the 1938 edition of Talbot-Booth 'Ships And The Sea' the International Code of Signals states:
