Royal Navy & Merchant Navy 1948 Hallmarked Gold & Enamel Naval Signalling Flag Brooch, spelling the name BABYKIN.

An attractive fine quality gold and enamel nautical brooch, in the form of seven signalling flags, flown from a tall mast, each superbly hand coloured in translucent enamel and spelling the name "BABYKIN" or perhaps harbouring some other saucy meaning; the reverse impressed with 9 carat gold hallmarks for 1948 and maker's details "J.W.B". Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings incorporating safety roller catch in good working order, enamel perfect, an excellent example.
