WW1 The Black Watch (Royal Highlanders), Hand Painted Enamel Shield Sweetheart Brooch.

A scarce and very unusual style First World War period 'Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) sweetheart brooch' in the form of a gilt shield surmounted by stylized crown, the face inlaid with white enamel with hand painted badge bearing elongated 'Thistle Star' mounted with crowned thistle wreath resting on 'Sphinx tablet' and bearing the motto "Nemo me impune lacesset" in coloured enamels. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, enamel perfect except for small nick right side.
