Naval Jack of Australia Blue Ensign Flag 1916 silver and enamel brooch

A very unusual scarce First World War period 'Australian Navy Flag brooch'; fine quality hollow silver disc with royal blue translucent enamel border, the centre depicting a 'Blue Ensign' with 'Union Flag', seven-point Commonwealth Star and the five stars of the Southern Cross on white translucent rays; the reverse impressed with Birminham silver hallmarks for 1916 and maker's details "JA&S" (J Aitkin & Son, Birmingham). Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, no stress marks to the enamel, minimal wear with minor surface scatches.
