WW1 Royal Air Force Pilot's Wing Gilt & Enamel Transitional Period RAF Sweetheart Brooch.

A scarce original early transitional period 'Royal Air Force sweetheart brooch'; gilded brass red enamel Crowned eagle resting on "R.A.F" tablet inlaid with rich blue enamel, flanked by large well defined feathered wings. Very good condition, complete with original pin fittings, enamel perfect.
Wingspan 54mm.

This style of brooch would often be seen during the First World War carrying a 'Royal Naval Air Service' RNAS scroll and a Naval Crown instead of a King's Crown.
