Royal Flying Corps pilot's wing RFC silver sweetheart brooch
An exceptional scarce original First World War period 'Royal Flying Corps brooch', possibly by Phillips of Aldershot; finely feathered wings bearing crowned 'RFC' crest on blue enamel ground 'Per Ardua Ad Astra' (Through Adversity to the Stars) motto below, the reverse impressed 'Sterling Silver'. Very good condition, complete with pin fittings, no damage to the enamel.

The 'Royal Flying Corps' and the 'Royal Naval Air Service' merged on 1 April 1918 to form the 'Royal Air Force'.
