A rare original circa First World War period'HMS Defence naval sweetheart badge'; silver blue enamel strap, the centre bearing embossed crowned Union Flag within a 'Trophy of Arms' the reverse impressed 'Silver' and mounted on a coiled end pin bar, very typical of the period. Very good condition, no damage to the enamel.

HMS Defence was a Minotaur-class armoured cruiser, launched on 24 April 1907, sunk at the Battle of Jutland in 31 May 1916.
