Royal Navy HMS King Edward VII 1915 Hm silver torpedo pin badge
A scarce original First World War period 'H.M.S. King Edward VII pin brooch', in the form of a hollow silver torpedo with cut out applied title scroll, the reverse impressed with Chester silver hallmarks for 1915 and maker's details 'F.H.M' ((Frank H Mannox Birmingham.). Very good mint condition, complete with original pin fitting.
Length approx 57mm.
HMS King Edward VII, named after King Edward VII, was the lead ship of her class of pre-dreadnought battleships. On the 6 January 1916 while steaming to Belfast for a refit she struck a naval mine that had been laid by the German auxiliary cruiser SMS Möwe. Attempts to tow King Edward VII to port failed when she took on a dangerous list she was abandoned and her crew evacuated to several destroyers. King Edward VII sank later that day.
